Songs can be dime-a-dozen, but music that is authentic, relatable, and memorable is what Katherine J. Ross aims for with each composition.

Born and raised in Toronto, music was a constant throughout Katherine's life. She listened to everything from classic rock to broadway standards to country. Katherine's innate musicality naturally led to a proficiency in piano, guitar, and vocals. Out of this grew a strong desire to express herself by writing her own songs.

Building on her early musical influences and training, Katherine has evolved into a versatile and multifaceted songwriter with her own sound and stylization. Katherine’s experience writing and collaborating with an array of artists and producers is one of the cornerstones to her career. She brings a strong sense of knowing what feels right in a song, and delivers it in the most effective way.

“Not every hit song has to be about something deeply personal or overly dramatic - it can come from a wisp of an idea or spark from something you hear in passing that later inspires a whole song.”

An avid learner, Katherine's musical resumé is impressive as well as varied. In 2015, she graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Major in Songwriting. At Berklee, she was selected by hit songwriter, Kara DioGuardi, to be a part of an exclusive "Hit-Making" class.  Upon graduation, she moved to Nashville and interned at ASCAP and Warner Music. She was a Semifinalist in the 2015 CMT Song Contest and in 2018 she also became a Semifinalist in the Canadian Song Contest for her song “This Was Gonna Hurt”.

Katherine’s ultimate goal is to bolster what Canada already has:

“There simply are not enough female voices on the radio. Males are obviously talented and work really hard, but there are so many beautiful female voices out there that should be heard. With so few songs being written for females from the female perspective. I want to contribute to getting more female voices  onto the radio in Canada.”

As Katherine continues to compose, create, and innovate throughout 2018 and beyond, you are invited to connect with her through email or social media regarding your next writing session, recording session, or anything music related.
